Creating an ABS Survey Account
ABS Survey Account
Create an account and access your survey form
- Select ‘Create your ABS account’ on the login page
- Enter your details into the boxes provided and select ‘Next’ to continue.
- Set up your email as a verification method by selecting the ‘Set up’ button underneath the email method.
- Enter the six-digit verification code sent to your email and select ‘Verify’.
- Set up your password as a verification method by selecting the ‘Set up’ button. Create a password that is at least 10 characters long, has at least one upper- and lower-case letter, a number, and a symbol.
- Once you have created you ABS Survey Account, you will be able to access your survey after entering your Form Access Code into the box and selecting the ‘Add form’ button. Your Form Access Code can be found on the letter or email we sent you. Your survey will be saved in the list of surveys at the bottom of the screen. You may need to scroll down to see it.
Trouble retrieving your verification code
If you have entered your email address and selected ‘Next’ but did not receive an email with your verification code within a few minutes, please check your email spam or junk folder. We know it is inconvenient, but sometimes your email application may send these emails to the junk folder or block them. You can try to minimise this by adding the ABS to your ‘safe senders’ list.
Please note, your verification code will time out and you will be unable to use it after 5 minutes.
If you are still having trouble retrieving your verification code or are unable to access the email address linked to your account, please contact us for help.
Timed out when creating an account
Your account may be incomplete. Try logging in with the account details you used to complete the create account process. If you are unable to remember your password, contact us. Otherwise, try creating an account with a different email address.
For security reasons the system only allows 5 minutes for the create account process. If you do not verify your email address within this time limit your session will be timed out.
If your session has timed out and you are unable to finish creating your account, please contact us for help.
Forgotten password
- On the login page enter your email under the ‘Log into your account’ option and select ‘Next'.
- Select the ‘Forgot password’ button.
- Select the ‘Send me an email’ button.
- Check your email for your verification code.
- Enter the code and select ‘Verify’.
- Enter a new password ensuring it matches the specified password requirements.
- Re-enter your new password for confirmation and select ‘Next’.
- Your password will now be updated, and you will be logged in.

Information about the ABS Survey Account
Providing your phone number and email address
We may use your phone number and email to contact you about your survey. We may also use these contact details to help reset your password if you forget it. We do not share these details with anyone else.
Submitting a data file
Please see our Submitting Data Files to the ABS page for step-by-step instructions.
Reallocating your business survey
If your business or organisation has been selected for a survey, you can reallocate survey forms to another person in your business or organisation. Only one person can access a survey form at a time and there is no limit to how many times it can be reallocated. After adding your form to your ‘My Surveys’ table, you can reallocate the survey to another person by clicking the 'Delegate' button.
If you'd like to reallocate a data submission form, please check the Submitting Data Files to the ABS page.
If you have saved and exited your survey form before you reallocate it to someone else, then all your answers will be saved.
Completing the survey over multiple sessions
You can log in and out of your ABS Survey Account and use as many sessions as you need to complete your form. If your survey form is incomplete, you will need to click 'Resume' each time to access your survey form.
If you have saved and exited your survey form before you reallocate it to someone else, all your answers will be saved.
If your household has been selected for a survey, you are not able to reallocate your survey form.
Issues with your online survey form
Form Access Code already claimed
You only need to enter your Form Access Code once. After this you can access your survey in the ‘My Surveys’ section. If this is the first time you are entering your Form Access Code and you receive a message saying it has already been claimed, please contact us.
“Unable to sign in” message
For security reasons the ABS does not provide details for log in failures. This helps prevent unwanted activity on your account. The “Unable to sign in” message could mean:
- The password you entered is wrong. Please either try again or try resetting your password. You can also contact us to reset your password.
- You don’t have an ABS account with that email address. Check the spelling or try another email address. Otherwise, create your account.
- You have been locked out. Incorrectly entering your password too many times results in a 5 minute lock out. You can wait and try again or contact us to reset your password.
- There was an issue creating your account. You may be creating an account with an email address that already has an ABS account. Try signing in or create an account with a different email address. Otherwise, contact us for help.
Can’t see the sign in screen on your device
The sign in platform is not compatible with all devices. Please try again with another device.
We recommend using a laptop or desktop computer. Otherwise, please contact us for help.
Can’t access your survey form
If you are having problems accessing your survey form, please try the following:
- Close your internet browser. Then, open a new browser window and try logging back in.
- Open your ABS Survey Account and survey form in a different web browser software.
- Clear your cache/browsing history by referring to your browser’s instructions.
- Wait and log back in later as we may be experiencing a high volume of traffic which can sometimes cause issues.
- Check to see if you have already claimed your form. If you have claimed your Form Access Code in an earlier session, you will not need to enter it again. Scroll down to ‘My Surveys’, on your ABS Survey Account page. Your survey should be there with a start or resume button.
Problems viewing your survey form
If your survey form is not displaying correctly or you are having trouble moving to the next screen it may be because you do not have JavaScript enabled in your web browser. This is most common for older versions of web browsers. JavaScript can usually be enabled in 'Options', under the 'Tools' menu. If you need web browser assistance, you can try the 'Help' menu in your web browser.
Confirmation you have completed the survey form
Once you have completed and submitted your form, the final page will include a confirmation message. You can also see the status of the survey in the 'My survey form history' section of your account.
Received a reminder when you have already completed your survey
If you have received a reminder from the ABS, it may have been sent before you submitted the form. If this is the case, you do not need to take any further action.
Alternatively:
- Check if the reminder you have received is for the same survey form. Often ABS surveys run for multiple cycles, or you may be asked to respond to more than one survey at a time.
- Once you have finished a survey form you need to click 'Submit' on the last page to ensure your data is submitted correctly. You can check your survey’s status by logging into your ABS Survey Account and checking that your form is in the ‘My survey form history’ section. If the form status is 'In Progress' or 'Not yet finished' you can click 'Resume' and ensure the survey form has been correctly submitted.
